Coordinate During Disasters

The SBTC has enlisted the support of our organisation to respond to the extraordinary needs of disasters.


Mumbai floods – June 2005

During the Mumbai floods Think Foundation was responsible for :

  • organizing blood donation drives in various corporates in the immediate aftermath.
  • collecting Platelets arranged from other cities from the airport and transporting them to KEM Hospital. These were in turn distributed to hospitals in need of Platelets.
  • identifying Platelet Donors from our List and sending them to KEM Hospital for platelet donation by ‘Apheresis’.
  • assisting the SBTC in monitoring the requirement of Platelets on a daily basis.


Serial train blasts in Mumbai – July 2006

During the train blasts in July 2006, Think Foundation was responsible for providing ground support to the State Blood Transfusion Council. Representatives of Think Foundation were in touch with all the key Blood Banks on the night of the blast and provided information to officials of the State Blood Transfusion Council and the Directorate of Health Services.


Dengue & Leptospirosis – July/Aug 2006

During the period July/August 2006 due to the increased requirement of Platelets as a result of a large number of cases of Dengue and Leptospirosis, the State Blood Transfusion Council had organized for Platelets from other cities in Maharashtra.  Think Foundation was responsible for collecting Platelets from the airport and transporting them to KEM Hospital.


Mumbai terror attacks - November 2008

Think Foundation was in touch with all the Blood Banks in the city from 10:00 pm on the 26th November. The position of blood in the Blood Banks was conveyed to all the Hospitals receiving victims of the terror attack.

Blood Banks were asked to stand by and be ready to go on drives the next day, if necessary. In response to the public sentiment, drives were organized at a number of places by requesting the Blood Banks standing by to go on these drives.

NSS Mumbai University, active Lions Clubs & Rotary Clubs, corporates were in touch with us and willing to organize drives at our instructions.

Blood Banks from other states were in touch with us either directly or through the State Blood Transfusion Council.

Think Foundation was also involved in actually moving blood units on 27th November 2008 to Bombay Hospital and J.J. Hospital from KEM Hospital.
